Our Vision

We imagine a time when every person on the Blackfeet Nation has a home to live in that is self-sustainable with clean energy and enjoys an abundant source of local foods alongside a thriving economy.

OUR MISSION

To create innovative, ecological and sustainable systems to meet the unique needs of our Blackfeet community.

OUR FOCUSED APPROACH

The Solar/Agriculture Project (Agrivoltaics):

Agrivoltaics is the planting of local food and agriculture under solar arrays to increase land-use efficiency by up to 160% while providing a source of clean energy and food for community members. Incorporating traditional foods restores our indigenous and sustainable food systems.

The Solar/Wind Housing Project:

The Blackfeet Nation has a shortage of homes but an abundance of land. MAA will connect solar panels and wind power generators to individual homes for stand-alone (off-grid) or dual-use (grid + electric). Dual energy use has the potential to sell surplus energy back to local electric companies.

The Solar/Wind Economic Project:

Connecting small family-run businesses to solar and wind power has the potential to speed up new business development by reducing wait time for electric power sources. Eventual dual use of grid and off grid energy sources saves energy and business costs.

The Issues We Are Addressing

SUSTAINABLITY

Indigenous people have traditionally been the most resilient and sustainable people on the planet. We have always honored, interacted, and related with all our relatives including the elements. MAA would like to deepen our relationship with the sun and wind to receive their incredible source of good energy to provide for our basic needs in a long-term sustainable manner. We would like to live a balanced sustainable life including once again, an intact and thriving local food, housing, and economic system. Mountains All Around would like to empower new and innovative systems and connect them with long-standing natural sources of power we have always acknowledged and accepted. Balance and sustainability are our natural state.

CLIMATE CHANGE

The current climate crisis caused by global warming is directly impacting the Blackfeet Nation. Melting glaciers in Glacier National Park to the west has led to reduced stream/lake levels and drier conditions for the tribe. Higher global temperatures paired with an ongoing drought that began in late 2020 has impacted food and agricultural production and increased wildfires that have burned thousands of acres.  There is a need for alternative energy use to help reduce global warming for our community, state, nation, and our world. A global pandemic on top of a climate crisis has impacted Indigenous communities in inequitable ways including access to basic needs such as food and shelter. Mountains All Around would like to develop sustainable systems to protect our community and the natural resources that exist at the Blackfeet Nation.

ECONOMY

MAA would like to contribute to a thriving local economy where everyone at a minimum has enough food, shelter, and income.  MAA would like to empower small families to launch small businesses and also grow and sell local foods. We would like to see every family have enough food, energy, and income to meet their basic needs at a minimum. We believe by creating alternative energy systems for homes and businesses along with planting local produce that great strides toward economic stability for individuals can be taken to help overcome a multitude of economic challenges including a lack of jobs, low wages, and a challenging economy.
